1.Early disease detection

Artificial intelligence analyses medical data and identifies patterns that may indicate the presence of a disease. This can lead to early intervention and treatment, increasing the chances of successful outcomes. AI-powered algorithms can analyze vast amounts of medical data, including medical images (like X-rays, MRIs, and CT scans), pathology slides, and patient records to detect diseases at an early stage. In Kenya AI application was used at Kenyatta hospital to detect covid19 cases from a CT scan image in 2020. Developed by neusoft medical and installed by Megascope Healthcare, the Application was able to detect early cases of covid19 from a Chest CT image. MAI was piloted in Africa in the mid-1980s. MAI deployed in Kenya improved health worker–patient interaction quality with evidence of increased number of symptoms elicited. To improve the detection of common and potentially blinding eye disorders, MAI (successfully implemented in the US) was piloted in Egypt some time in 1986.

2.Making personalized treatment plans

AI can analyze vast amounts of data and personalize treatment plans based on the patient’s history. AI can analyze a patient’s genetic makeup, medical history, and other factors to create personalized treatment plans. This ensures that treatments are tailored to the individual, maximizing their effectiveness and reducing side effects.

3.Assisted doctors to make more accurate diagnosis

Machine learning algorithms can identify abnormalities, tumors, fractures, and other conditions that might be difficult for the human eye to detect when doing x-rays, MRIs and CT scans. AI-based clinical decision support systems integrate patient data, medical literature, and best practices to provide real-time guidance to physicians. These systems assist doctors in choosing the most appropriate treatments, medications, and interventions based on the patient’s condition and medical history.

4. It has streamlined processes

AI powered systems can automate tasks such as scheduling appointments, ordering medications, and monitoring vital signs. this can free up nurses and doctors to focus on more complex tasks such as patient care and education. Artificial Intelligence automates administrative tasks like billing and coding, reducing the administrative burden on healthcare professionals and freeing up more time for patient care. This also makes it easy to trace a patient’s medical record and give a proper diagnosis base on their medical history and solves the issue of losing patients files.

5. It has led to discovery and development of new drugs

AI can analyze extensive datasets to identify potential drug candidates and predict their effectiveness in treating specific diseases.

This accelerates drug discovery and reduces the time and cost associated with bringing new medications to market.
