Mazda BT 50 in Africa has been unveiled. AS they say “Mazda is a car for Enthusiasts, and true to the word, BT -50 is not an exemption. The Mazda’s Double cabin has been redesigned to adopt the powerful Mazda’s kodo UI ( Soul of Motion ) Design language used in its popular SUVs. The new Mazda BT-50 is based on Isuzu D-Max 2022 platform.
From the front grill, its looks similar to the Mazda CX -9 or CX-8. The All-New Mazda BT-50 is fully redesigned from the ground up. It launched internationally in June 2020 and units sold in South Africa, Kenya and Uganda will be produced in Thailand.

Mazda BT 50 in South Africa
Craig Roberts, MD of Mazda Southern Africa on the introduction of the All-New BT-50 Said: “We could not be prouder or more excited to launch the All-New BT-50 in Southern Africa now. The vehicle has a long history locally, and internationally. It has been re-imagined and re-built from the ground up, with all the utilitarian value of a double-cab bakkie, and all the comfort and technology expected of an SUV. We are confident it will be met with enthusiasm by our customers and media alike, as a true stand-out and another bold reflection on our Japanese Heritage.”
Mazda BT 50 2022 in Africa Unique Features
For the first time, the third generation BT-50 is available with adaptive cruise control which is aided by twin cameras in the windscreen rather than a radar sensor in the grille, as to make the installation of off-road accessories in the front of the vehicle possible. Autonomous emergency braking, blind zone warning, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keeping assistance and centre airbags are also available in select trims.
Mazda BT 50 2022 Engine & Performance
The model line-up consists of three derivatives: Active, Dynamic and Individual, and has been aligned with that of Mazda SUV car range. The Active model features a new 1.9L diesel engine with automatic or manual gearbox, producing 110kW of power and 350Nm of torque. The Dynamic and Individual models feature the new 3.0L 6-speed automatic gearbox that produces 140kW of power and 450Nm of torque. The Individual model is available with the 4×4 drivetrain, whereas all other models are available in the 4×2 drivetrain. Personally I feel that the Mazda missed it by producing two trims that are two wheel drive. In Africa, every SUV should be a 4X4 based on the African terrain.
