Safaricom has finally provided an online portal where customers can update their sim card details, a relief for many who risked having their sim cards switched off.
The Communication Authority of Kenya had set April 15th 2022 as the deadline for the ongoing SIM registration and details update. The main aim of the registration is to compact cybercrime.
Long queues have been witnessed at Safaricom shops across the country as Kenyans rushed to beat the deadline.

The communication Authority Director General Ezra Chiloba had earlier stated that the authority is not going to extend the SIM card registration process. He had further stated a fine of Ksh.300K or six months jail term to anyone who will not meet the deadline of SIM registration in Kenya.
He asked all mobile network operators to speed up the data cleanup exercise and said that no more time will be added upon the expiry of the grace period noting that unregistered sim cards have security implications.
How to Register Safaricom SIM Online Step by Step
To register Safaricom SIM online;
- Visit Safaricom Website:
- Select account and Enter Phone Enter Phone Number
- Accept thee terms and conditions and click continue.
- Enter a one-time Pin (OTP) number sent to your phone by SMS and click next.
- Select numbers that are registered with your ID and ones that you would like to validate/update.
- Enter document prove
- This will involve uploading a picture of your ID both front side copy and back side copy.
A verification process will begin and a report will be sent to confirm if the details are correct.
